Over the Top Politics

It will come as a great shock to many that Newt Gingrich is still running for President of the United States.

Newt is one of the few who have not yet subscribed to the national media declaration that Mitt Romney is the presumptive Republican nominee.

The national media has already moved on to the general election battle between Obama and Romney.

Which brings us to the topic of… campaign financing.

2012 is gonna be the worst year of politicking in the history of mankind.

Because voters are gullible, money talks!

Literally a couple billion will be spent on the U.S. presidential election alone. We will be bombarded by negative advertising at every turn.

The Dirty Depths of Presidential Politics

Its sad, but politicians will sink to any depth to obtain the money needed to get elected.

The latest example is an email sent out to all Gingrich supporters appealing for them to patronize an advertiser! That appeal is shown at the end of this article.

Its no secret that Newt lost his biggest financial benefactor and is operating on a shoestring campaign budget. He’s been there before and come back.

What is different this time is that Newt has succumbed to the naked appeal of the almighty dollar.

He has, but should voters?

For the better part of a year President Obama has been in full campaign financing mode. That is no secret to anyone paying attention. He leaps from one campaign fundraiser to another more often than he makes speeches, which is pretty much all the time.

In order to compete, low-budget candidates like Newt Gingrich have no option but to sink to sending out advertiser campaign appeals to their supporters to get the cash needed to compete against the deep pockets of a Romney or the Obama money juggernaut.

Its our fault… the voters.

As long as we allow money to buy our votes then the Obamas and the Romneys of the world will control us and the Gingriches of the world will stoop to bowing before corporate America for their financial support.

In the end, the United States is the big loser.

  1. Mr. Gingrich is one of those guys who is so smart they become stupid. Only absolute hubris can do that. And these are the types of people drawn to be Presidents and such. Scary.

    • Imho, this email reflects abject desperation over hubris. Its more like, “I don’t care how it looks… I need cash now!”

To me this email is a poster child for how far campaign financing has floated off course.
